GPT Notifier

This Privacy Policy explains what information the GPT Notifier Chrome extension handles, how that information is used, and what data is not collected or shared.

Last updated: April 14, 2026

1. Overview

GPT Notifier is a browser extension that shows a browser notification when ChatGPT finishes responding on https://chatgpt.com/.

The extension operates locally in your browser. It is designed to monitor relevant ChatGPT conversation requests only for the purpose of detecting when a response has completed and presenting a notification.

2. Information the Extension Handles

The extension may access or temporarily store the following:

  • Your extension preference, such as whether notifications are enabled.
  • Temporary request state needed to track whether a ChatGPT response is still in progress.
  • The text of the latest user prompt contained in a ChatGPT conversation request, so a short preview can appear in the notification.
  • Limited tab information such as the ChatGPT page URL, tab title, tab ID, and window ID, so the extension can return you to the correct page when you click the notification.

3. How the Information Is Used

The extension uses the information above only to:

  • Detect when a ChatGPT conversation request starts and ends.
  • Show a browser notification when the response is complete.
  • Display a short preview of your prompt in the notification message.
  • Focus or reopen the related ChatGPT tab when you click the notification.
  • Store your on or off preference for the extension.

4. Storage and Retention

  • Notification settings are stored locally using Chrome extension storage.
  • Prompt previews and tab-matching data are stored only in temporary session storage and are removed when they are no longer needed, such as after the request finishes, the notification is closed, or the browser session restarts.
  • The extension does not maintain a separate remote database or long-term server-side record of your prompts or browsing activity.

5. Data Sharing

GPT Notifier does not sell, transmit, or share your personal data with the extension developer or other third parties.

The extension does not send your prompts, notification data, or tab information to any external server controlled by the developer.

Your use of ChatGPT itself is subject to OpenAI's own terms and privacy practices. This extension does not control how chatgpt.com processes information you provide directly to that service.

6. Permissions Used

  • notifications: to show a browser notification when a response is complete.
  • storage: to save your extension settings and temporary session data.
  • tabs: to focus or reopen the related ChatGPT tab after a notification click.
  • webRequest: to detect relevant ChatGPT conversation network requests in the browser.
  • https://chatgpt.com/* host access: to operate only on the ChatGPT site required for this extension's functionality.

7. What the Extension Does Not Do

  • It does not collect data from websites other than chatgpt.com.
  • It does not use analytics, advertising, or tracking tools.
  • It does not sell user data.
  • It does not send your prompt content to a separate developer-run server.

8. Security

The extension is designed to minimize data handling and keep data local to the browser whenever possible. However, no software system can guarantee absolute security.

9. Children's Privacy

GPT Notifier is not directed to children, and the extension is not intended to knowingly collect personal information from children.

10. Changes to This Policy

This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time to reflect changes to the extension or legal requirements. The latest version should be published with the extension listing or accompanying project materials.

11. Contact

If you have questions about this Privacy Policy, please contact the extension publisher through the Chrome Web Store listing or the project page where this extension is distributed.

This document is provided as a practical policy for the current version of GPT Notifier. If the extension's behavior changes, the policy should be reviewed and updated accordingly.
